Corné van der Berg will be presenting on the following topic:
WORKING PAPERLESS: Undocumented workers – their rights, their risks and their obligations.
This talk will focus on the legal position of workers who are not South African citizens, but who wish to work in South Africa within the boundaries of the law. Issues to be discussed include: the rights of refugees and non-refugees; the documents required by law in order for a foreign worker to be lawfully employed; an employer's risks arising from employing a worker without the necessary documents; ways of addressing the situation when worker's documents expire while they are employed; remedies available to foreign workers in the event of unfair dismissal; and the extent of protection afforded to foreign workers by labour legislation.
Corné van der Berg is a human resources and labour relations practitioner with 15 years' experience in both fields, and learning and development. Corné advises businesses on all aspects of strategic human resource management planning, aligning business objectives to that of business leaders, executives, management teams and employees.
